I believe that you should look forward to your time spent with your therapist. It should be a place where you are free of judgement, comfortable to speak about your feelings and work on the “tough stuff” that the people around you may not understand or know how to help with. Your time with me is an opportunity to grow, receive validation, and learn new things. I am here for you, to work along with you, to help you reach your goals and work towards finding your peace.
I have been working directly with people in healthcare settings for over 15 years. My experience includes working with the geriatric population in long term care facilities, memory care units, with children and teenagers in the psychiatric residential setting, with individuals with chronic illness and hospice. I received my Bachelors in Social Work at Bradley University in Peoria, IL and my Masters in Social Work at Dominican University in River Forest, IL. In my Masters program, I received my graduate Certificate in Gerontology and Aging Care. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker as well as a Certified Oncology Social Worker. In September 2019, I received the American Cancer Society Emerging Leader in Social Work Award.
Being able to work with people during some of the most difficult times of their lives is my passion. My goal is to assist people find their inner strengths and teach them how to use those strengths to help work through troubling times. I am a firm believer that what a person receives out of counseling depends on how honest they are to themselves, to their loved ones, and to me. It takes hard work, commitment, time and an open mind to make changes. I will help you utilize tools and coping strategies, assisting you to build practices you can use in the long run, not just during the time you are in counseling because let’s face it, the real work starts outside the office. It is no secret that life is full of many external factors that can have a negative effect on us and are outside of our control. I can help you learn how to accept the things you cannot change and work on what you can.
