I approach my clients with a belief that we have the ability to overcome any obstacle if one is vulnerable enough to ask for and accept help. The first step often lies with self-reflection about where we are today and our willingness to accept change. I have witnessed adversity become a great builder of strength and character.
I was born in Maryland to a military family, moving around as a child. Therefore, I have a great appreciation and understanding of military culture and veterans issues. I was also an inner city teacher and administrator for thirteen years, allowing me to work with children with ADHD, Autism and various learning disabilities.
I received my Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Wake Forest University in North Carolina. My experiences in counseling include addiction counseling, running group therapy for grief counseling, mediation services, marriage and family counseling, juvenile, teen and career counseling. This has allowed me experience with many diagnoses, including, but not limited to:
- Depression
- Anxiety
- Sexual Problems
- Agoraphobia
- Substance Abuse
- Oppositional Defiance
- Sleep Disorders
- Grief
- Panic Disorders
- Dementia
Recently, I earned a Certification from the University of Michigan in Advanced Clinical Dementia Practice.
