My name is pronounced “Kaught-Lane.” I was born in Burundi, Africa, and grew up in a small Nebraska community. I spent many years in North Carolina and Washington, D.C. before landing in Ormond Beach, Florida. My own healing process and journey to do therapy work changed me in many ways. I learned that our emotions, thoughts, and bodies are not the problem, rather the environment (culture, society, family home) we were raised in. I learned that we aren’t responsible for the traumas we may have experienced but we can take responsibility and choose to heal. I would be honored to navigate with you in your healing journey.
I committed to a career in service that fosters spaces of social, physical and emotional healing and transformation for myself, individuals and communities. I pursued a degree in Conflict Analysis and Resolution, Gender Studies, and then Social Work. I served as a crime victim advocate for 13 years, and then continued to work with survivors as a federal government program manager, director and agency-wide coordinator. In my journey, I expanded my understanding of trauma, mental health challenges, and addiction. I became certified in mindfulness and meditation for individuals and groups and learned about integrating the body into one’s healing journey through somatic-based therapy. As a registered clinical social work therapist intern, I worked at a residential and outpatient mental health and addiction organization, and for a non-profit serving people with no or little income struggling with mental and physical health and addiction issues. I provided individual and group therapy.
As a Registered Clinical Social Work Intern and a certified Mindfulness and Meditation Teacher, my mission is to create a safe and affirming environment that supports you in your desire to feel, heal, connect, and free yourself from suffering. I work with people of all ages, backgrounds, and experiences. I utilize the modalities of mindfulness, somatic-based therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy.
